Greig Fraser to shoot Sam Mendes’ Beatles films

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Oscar-winning Dune cinematographer Greig Fraser will serve as director of photography on Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles films. Fraser had stepped away from Dune: Part Three in order to shoot The Batman II for Matt Reeves, but with the DC/Warner Bros. superhero film delayed, he has chosen instead to collaborate with Mendes on the Beatles biopics.
Josh Brolin revealed in an interview with Kevin McCarthy that Fraser will be the cinematographer for all four Beatles films, starring Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, Barry Keoghan, and Joseph Quinn. Mendes had originally offered the project to Roger Deakins, but Deakins ultimately did not join.
Two years ago, Deakins said Fraser deserved an Oscar nomination for his work on The Batman: “The reason he [wasn’t nominated] is simple: snobbery. There’s been an unfair bias against Marvel, DC, and other popular worlds.”
The screenplay for The Batman II has just been completed, with filming set to begin in spring 2026. The Beatles films, meanwhile, are planned to shoot back-to-back over a 15-month span.
Fraser’s other credits include Foxcatcher, Vice, and Zero Dark Thirty. Sony confirmed at CinemaCon that all four Beatles films will be released in April 2028.
